What is the Happy Nappy Duo™?
When you get your little one ready for the pool, you want kit that feels safe, simple and reliable. Your swim bag might already have towels, toys and maybe one of our Boys Swimwear Bundles or Girls Swimwear Bundles. The Happy Nappy Duo™ is the next key piece to add.
The Happy Nappy Duo™ is a reusable swim nappy with an integrated silver lining. We worked with a leading virologist over four years to develop it. The silver lining sits inside the Happy Nappy Duo™ and helps reduce bacteria from faeces before it reaches the pool water. So you help protect your baby and other swimmers every time you swim.
Most UK swim schools ask for a double nappy system. Because the Happy Nappy Duo™ has an inbuilt under nappy, it counts as a double nappy on its own. So you do not need to buy an extra under nappy or disposable swim nappy. You can simply pair it with one of our Boys Swimwear Bundles and you are ready for lessons or holiday swims.

What are the benefits of silver in the Happy Nappy Duo™?
People have used silver for centuries to help tackle bacteria. Sailors used it to help keep drinking water safer on long journeys. Medical teams have used silver in dressings for wounds and burns. Silver has natural antibacterial properties. Modern testing continues to explore how it affects different types of bacteria.
We use a silver lined layer inside the Happy Nappy Duo™ for two main reasons:
- It helps reduce certain bacteria from faeces in pool water test conditions
- It sits gently against your baby’s skin
Hospitals use dressings that contain silver to help care for burns and some sore skin conditions. That supports its use in products for sensitive skin. It is one reason we can say the silver lining in the Happy Nappy Duo™ is suitable for babies who experience nappy rash, eczema or other delicate skin conditions.
The silver layer has been vigorously tested by virologists*, especially for Splash About, to prove that this anti-bacterial silver layer does kill germs from faeces that can cause nasty tummy bugs like gastroenteritis or E-Coli.**
This means that by using a Happy Nappy Duo™you can be assured that you are protecting your baby and other swimmers as best you can from germs if your baby soils during their swimming session.
Dr Pam Cameron BSc PhD DipHE MRSB FHEA, Novo Science Ltd.
"A full scientific investigation was completed by Dr Pam Cameron on behalf of Splash About. In her conclusion she wrote "The Silver lining fabrics have been tested and redeveloped over a 2-year period. The final product is highly antibacterial in a pool water solution and Imaging at CytoViva shows Cryptosporidium Oocysts cell walls as flattened and shrivelled, when interacting with the silver from the fabric"

Why did we create the Happy Nappy Duo™?
At Splash About, we focus on products that make baby swimming easier for you and safer for everyone in the pool. Parents told us they liked the original Happy Nappy™ but wanted an even simpler way to meet swim school rules and feel reassured about leaks and hygiene.
So we developed the Happy Nappy Duo™.
We took the secure fit of the original Happy Nappy™ and added an inbuilt under nappy with a silver lined layer. The result:
- Meets the double nappy requirements of many UK swim schools
- Helps reduce certain bacteria from faeces inside the nappy in test conditions
- Stays soft and comfortable so your baby can kick and splash freely
Are you getting ready for your baby’s first lessons? The Happy Nappy Duo™ gives you one easy piece of kit for pool rules and leak protection in one go.
In summary:
What is the Happy Nappy Duo™?
To recap, the Happy Nappy Duo™:
- Is a reusable swim nappy with a silver lined inner layer
- Took over four years to develop with input from a specialist virologist
- Helps reduce certain bacteria from faeces in pool water test conditions
- Sits gently on your baby’s skin
- Counts as a double nappy system for many UK swim schools
So when you pack your swim bag with the usual towels and swimwear, the Happy Nappy Duo™ gives you confidence that you have the right nappy solution as well.
How does the Happy Nappy Duo™ protect against leaks?
The Happy Nappy Duo™ uses soft neoprene that holds its shape in the water. It aims to keep solids securely inside the nappy.
It protects against leaks because:
- It fits close to the body with no gaping
- The waist and thigh seals sit flat against the skin
- There are no poppers or fastenings that might open in the water
- As with all swim nappies, the Happy Nappy Duo™ does not hold urine. So you should keep your baby in a regular nappy for the journey to the pool. Change into the Happy Nappy Duo™ shortly before you get in.
The close but flexible fit lets your child move freely in the water, and you can relax with a bit more peace of mind.
How do you choose the right size of Happy Nappy Duo™?
A good fit helps the Happy Nappy Duo™ work properly and keeps your baby comfortable. It should feel snug but not tight.
Here is how to choose the right size:
- Use our size guide rather than age alone
- Measure your baby when they are lying flat and calm
- Measure around the tummy across the belly button
- Measure around the fullest part of the thigh
When your baby wears the Happy Nappy Duo™:
- You should be able to slide a finger comfortably under the waist and leg seals
- You should not see deep red marks after you take it off
So take a moment to measure carefully, then pick the size that matches your baby’s measurements. It is a small step that makes a big difference in the pool.
What is the difference between the Happy Nappy Duo™ and the Happy Nappy™?
You might wonder which swim nappy to choose. Both the Happy Nappy™ and the Happy Nappy Duo™ help prevent solids from leaking into the pool. However, there are some clear differences.
The Happy Nappy Duo™:
- Has an inbuilt under nappy layer
- Includes a silver lined layer with antibacterial properties in tested conditions
- Counts as a double nappy system on its own for many swim schools
The Happy Nappy™:
- Needs a separate under nappy or disposable swim nappy if your swim school asks for a double nappy system
- Does not include the silver lined layer
Both nappies:
- Use a snug fit to help keep solids in
- Allow your child to move comfortably in the water
- Need hand washing to protect the neoprene and ribbing
So if your swim school needs a double nappy system and you want one item that covers both layers, choose the Happy Nappy Duo™. If your swim school has more flexible rules, you may decide between the two based on your own preference.
Do you need to wear something underneath the Happy Nappy Duo™?
No. You do not need anything underneath the Happy Nappy Duo™.
The inbuilt silver lined layer means the Happy Nappy Duo™ already counts as a double layer nappy system for many swim lesson providers. That keeps changing time simple, especially when you are juggling bags, towels and a wriggly baby.
Just put the Happy Nappy Duo™ on, then add your chosen swimwear on top.
How do you wash the Happy Nappy Duo™?
The Happy Nappy Duo™ is simple to look after. Good care helps it last for many swims.
After each swim:
- Pull out the silver lined inner layer
- Rinse and wash in cool water
- Leave it to dry naturally out of direct sunlight or strong heat
Do not use a washing machine or tumble dryer. This care routine protects the neoprene and seals so the nappy keeps its shape and fit.
Great for you, even better for the environment.
The Happy Nappy Duo™ replaces the need for disposable swim nappies that can take up to 450 years* to break down in landfill, so in buying one, you are helping to keep the number of nappies in landfill down. Here at Splash About, we are committed to helping the environment, which is why every Happy Nappy Duo™ is made using recycled plastic waste materials.
