Frequently Asked Questions
It's completely fine, and it's a lovely way to help your little one feel comfortable in the water. Baby swimwear keeps him warm and comfortable, and many styles offer UV protection too. Just choose a style suited to his age and pair it with a swim nappy.
A swim nappy is the one piece you'll always need: either a Happy Nappy™ or for swimming lessons, the Happy Nappy Duo™. For extra warmth, a baby wetsuit like the Baby Wrap™ or Warm In One™ makes a real difference. If you're swimming outdoors, go for UPF 50+ swimwear and apply sun cream to exposed skin.
Babies are welcome in the pool from their earliest weeks. There's no minimum age you need to wait for, so don't feel you have to hold off. Do check the pool temperature first: Swim England recommends at least 32°C for babies aged 0–3 months and at least 30°C for babies aged 3–12 months. Keep early sessions short and bring warm layers for afterwards.
A swim nappy is the one item you'll always need. A wetsuit helps keep your baby warm for longer, especially in cooler pools. Pack a towel, a change of clothes and a wet bag for used nappies too. A changing mat and a cosy after-swim layer will also make poolside changes much easier.
Swim nappies are required by most UK swim schools and swimming pools. We'd recommend a Happy Nappy™, which most UK swim schools trust for reliable leak protection. The Happy Nappy Duo™ can be worn on its own with no extra nappy underneath.
